Where did you get your hearse and/or where was it in service?

I'm glad I'm not the only crazy hearse eBayer... I grabbed my 1962 Eureka from a guy in Ohio. Drove from St. Louis to Lorain, Ohio and brought her home to begin the process of restoration. A few mon…

Profile Information

About Me:
I work. I go to school. I drive a hearse.

Oh, there's far more to me than that. There's flesh and blood and a deep rooted obsession with my Marilyn. I'm pursuing a degree in Industrial Psychology and working part-time in retail. I like to volunteer. St. Louis is a city of giving and I'm proud to say I recently raised $367 for a local animal shelter along with numerous donations of food and crates and toys and such. I love St. Louis, even its high crime statistics. I love going to the park, thrift store shopping, and going to local shows and gigs.
Who I'd like to meet:
Hearse people!!! They're a rare commodity :{

Interesting people!!! They are too.

I go to college. The only stories people tell are "Man, I got so drunk this weekend...I don't really remember what I did" O.o. I just want to meet someone that does that less than 100% of the time
Music:
Currently in rotation in the car stereo:

Streetlight Manifesto
Gogol Bordello
Ludo
The Living End
Movies
A Clockwork Orange; Ma Vie en Rose; La Vie en Rose; Army of Darkness; Crossroads (think, Steve Vai and '86); This Is Spinal Tap; Drop Dead Fred; Clerks; Empire Records; Fight Club; Tommy Boy; Moving (Richard Pryor!); Dogma; Inglourious Basterds; Creepshow; Rocky Horror Picture Show; Pulp Fiction; Office Space; Out Cold; Silence of the Lambs; Super Troopers; Beetlejuice; A Fish Called Wanda; The Applegates

All the standard jazz with a bit of flavor thrown in. I find it's far more fun to find terrible movies a la Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on A Plane or Trolls 2 and watch them with friends and our own MST3K-esque commentary.
Television
Pushing Daisies; Six Feet Under; It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia; Mr. Show with Bob and David. Very excited for Joel McHale and Community this fall =D
Books:
Most recently: I Am Charlotte Simmons

(a very disappointing read :/)
Other Interests:
Comedy and collecting old nintendo games. I love Patton Oswalt, Daniel Tosh, Dan Cummins, Jim Bruer... funny, funny men.

I love my NES and it's N64 and SNES bretherin. I love wandering around and collecting their missing friends, flea markets and garage sales offer great finds and great escapades.

Thank you for the compliment. I too dislike seeing them in junk yards....to the point where it literally pains me, but if you need something there arent a whole lot of other options for the most part. Aside form French Lake Auto, I've not seen or know of anyone else parting vintage coaches. From my experiences obtaining hearses I have a very good idea as to why most end up in the junkyard......they end up there due to being owned by novices who don't truly appreciate or even know what they really have....I see it all too often and those are the people I usually save funeral cars from. The bulk of my collection has been assembled in just such a manner, in fact only one of mine came from a collector, the rest were destined for the junk yard or some other miserable fate. Each one has its own story. I try to save as many of the "unloved and weeded out" as possible. They have a special place in my heart and will always have a place in my pole building or yard. I try my best not to part them out. I treat each hearse with the respect and dignity a professional car deserves.......collecting and driving them is not a glorification of death, but an appreciation for the service they provided and the genuine admiration for massive hand built cars. You won't see any skulls or silly ornamental stuff on mine, nor will I name them.....they mean more then that to me. We even go so far as to tour with the newer ones. If you have the time check out the pics of the 1963 I just picked up...it needs a ton of work, but again, at least it isn't getting junked or turned into a Halloween prop. I think you are the kind of person that owns a hearse for the right reasons and it is a pleasure to chat with you. Kudos to you!! I wish you the best of luck with all your hearsing endeavors. Matt

Just recently put Destiny on the road.. Did a wedding Halloween Night, pulled up to the front door of the hall where they were having there dance and got them out of the crowd and in the back, the dance was over and the rest of the party had gone down to the bars..Bellevue is a small town so everyone knows about the 2 hearses parked at the house behind the catholic church... I am experimenting with side-pipes, at the moment I brought the exhaust out behind the front wheels and just hung straight 2 1/2" pipe down each side, painted them with high temp black paint. I have some polished stainless steel sheets with holes punched already for heat shields but haven't got them on yet and I don't have any tips on the end of the pipes, They are 9 feet long and needless to say it is ridiculously loud.. so with the Bride and Groom on board we went toolin' around town, lightin' the tires up, rappin pipe, and just being loud and bawdy. It was great and they never stopped gigglin' all I heard from the back was. "Light 'em up again, Jesus! (Yes, many call me Jesus, must be the hair and beard) I eagerly fulfilled their request, and when we pulled up to the bar the whole bunch was standing outside they started chantin' for a "Big Smokey" but the town cop was at the intersection.. I got out and looked at him and he got out asked if that was what he'd been hearing rippin' around town... I said" Why yes it is" his next comment was shocking " It sounds like it can talk the talk, but can it walk the walk?" My reply was "You watch and let me know." I got back in and put it to the rugs let it shift into second eased off the brake to let it move out slowly and let 'er eat pavement for about 1/2 a block and those 9' side pipes just HOWLED. He then pulled me over...came up to my window stuck his hand in shook my hand and told me that was "Awesome".. But maybe it was time to quiet it down have a good time... Now that was pretty cool... so we pulled back to the bar and fun was had by all....

Depending on which picture(s) you are referring to, some are in my back yard, the long row is a junkyard in the middle of nowhere called French Lake Auto. I am amassing my own row of parts coaches, and even that isn't cheap. However the rarity of the parts and the enjoyment of being surrounded by as many hearses as possible regardless of condition makes it easier justify the expense. I just bought a 1963 Cadillac 3-way loader this weekend to add to the row. when it gets home I'll throw some pics up here.....it is not for the faint of heart, but my place is better than the crusher.
